These are the moments football pundits have been waiting for from Chelsea since Jose Mourinho’s exit: a potential meltdown in the dressing room, a new manager desperate for the respect of the players, and a shadow over title hopes at Stamford Bridge.

Ladies and gentlemen, the times of trouble may be on the horizon, but a win over Olympiakos today will keep Chelsea’s Champions League hopes alive, and will also give Avram Grant a vote of confidence with the club, the supporters, the owner, and the players.

Ever-Changing Chelsea

Coming off an exuberant win over West Ham over the weekend, and still smarting from a loss in the Carling Cup final, Chelsea’s roller coaster season rumbles on today at Stamford Bridge, in a competition squad skipper John Terry says, “is a big factor in our careers”.

By “our careers” he presumably means “my poor, hapless manager’s career, which I’ve already sought to undermine with player meetings and public lambasting”, and according to some football fortune tellers- fate has not been smiling upon Avram Grant from day one.

So- what of the predictions for the day’s game from The Groundsman’s Shed? A glance toward the manager’s face may ultimately tell the tale:

Cautious Optimism
Mild Rage
Certain Fear
On The Dole

We really do believe the Blues should have the ability and strength to make delicious falafel meat of the Olympiakos team- but the press will have the skewering sticks ready for Grant, just in case.
